last of the veggies

With a chance of frost forecasted for tonight , I have worked in my garden for the past couple of mornings....pulled things up....
First I pulled up the peppers, Green and jalapenos....

As You can see quite a lot of jalapenos...I am planning on making some homemade salsa with them...
now that bed where they was planted looks bare...I do not look forward to winter....The green peppers have been blanched and chopped and put in freezer bags , I saved the seeds as well...First time this year I have saved seeds...so hopefully it will work, I know I bought these pepper plants...I did up the green peppers today, I need to get some gloves in order to the jalapenos....I am planning on saving some of those seeds as well.

Here Are the tomatoes that were left on the vine when I pulled them up today
I am planning on making a green tomato salsa or maybe some piccalilli , don't know for sure...
The vines from the tomatoes and the peppers were put in one of the beds that I am working on for next year....

I thought I needed to pull up my cannas as well...as in this area of the country some people do dig them up so they will have them to plant next year....some people don't dig them up, but My mom always has dug them so that is what I did....I got two shoe boxes full, cut the stalks off and letting them dry up a bit...

Here are the seeds from the green peppers, Bell green peppers, I washed them and now letting them dry...before I put them up for the winter besides counting them.
Thinking about having a contest...
I have never had a contest before so...the prize would be of course seeds...

Henni in the Fall garden 2014

Still have Green peppers growing I so need to pick them
And have stuffed peppers

Henni doesn't like the jalapenos.

I still have a few tomatoes on the vines as well..., they sure don't get very big before ripen.
a strong tomatoey taste to them as well

Just one of the few irises blooming again

This above picture is not mine, but here is a picture of Tiger lilies seeds....
I picked mine off and then put in frig to mimic the winter and then planted them in dirt, put a white plastic bag over them....of course after watering them

Here is some of the young tiger lily seeds sprouting...
It will probably take a couple of years before they are able to bloom at least that is what I have read on the internet....

Hope you enjoy!

First prize Rose, do believe this is a first prize rose.

                                                        Maid of Honor climbing rose..

Some of my older purple irises are blooming, I have several of these....
First time these have ever bloomed twice, maybe they got mixed in with the others that do bloom twice a year, since I had them planted all together.

Starting a new bed...

Like I have posted before , at least I think I have posted it. I have raised beds, as the ground here is very rocky....you pick up one rock and then another magically appears where you had previous thought you had all the rocks picked up....lol...
In the past I have not done this , step by step, but hey you learn from your mistakes....I

Anyway, make a plan on the size of bed you want and lay out rocks or landscape timbers where you want the bed to be at.......

This is a picture of the new bed, I am working on....hint ~ before you decide that is where you want a bed, don`t plant anything there....
all of the grass has been pulled and can put in your compost bin or do what I did and either give the chickens that are penned up some fresh green grass or give to the miniature horse...

Lay newspaper down, prefer no color print, I have laid down colored print though and I really know if it makes a difference, but all the books and websites suggest no color print.....Hint~ don't do this on a very windy day....if so put rocks on the newspaper to keep in place....You can soak the newspaper down if you want to , after placing the paper down...you can also use feed sack the paper kind not the plastic shiny kind, for the most part it works the same way...

Then start putting your dirt, compost or manure on the newspaper, like I have done here...after you get a good layer of dirt or top soil...rake it smooth...I usually try and have at least 4-5 inches of the stuff before I usually start raking the bed smooth....then if you use top soil or dirt that is already enriched, you can start planting the bed, or if you do like I have done with this new bed....wait until their is enough dirt/compost then start planting.....
I am planning on having some daylilies and of course some irises in this bed , and maybe a couple more different flowers...and leave the front part for a veggie or two plants, maybe pumpkin or watermelon vine....
As you can see this bed isn't quite ready to plant.....

You can take the onions that are rotten and throw them in your garden to produce more onions as noted by this picture...I usually buy a 3 pound bag of onions,...sometimes, not very often I do run into a rotten one., it goes into one of my beds as compost....

the next pictures are just of the flowers ( mums, Roses) still blooming in the garden.

This is just my mums after the heavy rain we had for the last two-three days

My climbing rose bush is still blooming
This Climbing rose is called Maid of Honor....

Hope you enjoy this post of the garden!

Clearance brags....

Yes, I went and added some more to the Garden this year. Went to town and snagged some fall perianal bulbs for just 1.50 a piece....
First off...

This is the bed where I planted these, right in front of the Snow fire Rose and the Daylilies....
I think would very pretty here, hopefully they will come up in the spring....

                                                                      Next

this where I planted this iris at, in my yellow/Orange bed....right behind the daisy like Mums....but  in front of the sunflowers , in which I plan on planting more of....for this bed....please don't mind the weeds....there is a fence about where the weeds are .Neighbor has cows in there and as of yet they haven't eaten any of the flowers on this side of the fence, at least not that I have noticed...their used to be a tree to the back right hand of the picture....the tornado that came thru here a couple of years ago took it out...

Then..........I picked these two up as well

Just love irises.....maybe that is why I have so many of them

I planted the above irises in the Blackberry lane area of the garden...

It is finished , I just have to keep the weeds down,,,Blackberry lane is done...In blackberry Lane is 4 blackberry briers and of course irises in between the blackberries..
Along the right side is Rose of Sharon shrubs and two Euonymus, I don't know the variety ,but know are variegated....On the far end are crimson barberry shrubs, three of them. On the left hand side is blackberries part of the way, then another bed with the snow fire rose and irises, my toilet( with a mum planted in the bowl and moss rose planted in the tank) and my kitchen sink embedded in the ground (planted some sedum and other succulents).and a walk way I am creating between the toilet and the left row of blackberry briers, in which are about 4 blackberries and on that end is another bed with of course a rose bush( don't know the name of it)and more irises and old fashioned purple lilac and a crepe myrtle.

Here is the purple iris in bloom

My pristine rose, which is looking more of a light pink then white

Here is the next area of the garden to be worked on...or rather get looking better...rows of blackberries with irises in between...I so need some more t-post to make fence rows and so I can tie up the blackberry canes. Their is a peach tree in the far end, That I want to remove...it has only produce very small peaches...not big enough to do anything with...like make jelly or even eat, one bite and they are gone, I have irises I moved around it, since I don't know the name of them as of yet, hopefully I can get this area in shape one day....I have thorned blackberries planted in this area.

I hope everyone enjoys my blog!
