day 3

well it is day 3 of my News years resolution of taking pictures of the garden everyday...today I decided since there isn't really anything going on in the garden I would take a picture of one of the beds in each area of the garden...
as usually lets start with the Angel garden. I know only one thing planted the garden so far. but it is nice to see, I think I how it looked before planted began to pop up....or planted

I need to pick up the rocks from the rock tower I built...just didn't work here....either redo it or for go the rock towers in the Angel Garden....don't really know yet...

     first off sorry about the picture quality here,....this bed has one of my piñata climbing roses, and Denver`s Dream miniature rose, besides irises and daffodils that I got on clearance...I need to move some of the irises, that bloomed purple and I really don't want purple blooming irises in this bed
I want the same color of the roses in which are yellow/orange/red...yes all three colors no two blooms are alike...I do need to amend the soil in this bed....as the climbing rose hasn't grown that much  I planted it in 2013. this bed is on the side of the clothes line pole splitting blackberry fields and strawberry fields up

 

This bed is in Strawberry fields area of the garden...just redid so to speak, I took some rock towers out of it...the rock towers were all way up to the clothes line pole...I have my other piñata climbing rose planted by the clothes line pole and have a medallion tea rose planted in this bed, I wanted to find one similar to the piñata but couldn't find one where I usually get my roses, so I got medallion tea rose instead...it is so pretty when it blooms....have daffodils planted in this bed as well, in which are coming up. Need to plant some more things in this bed.

 

this is one my one of iris beds that just has different colors of irises together....have gladiolus planted in the front of this bed on the other side.......I have a old fashioned purple lilac shrub I planted by the t-post....

 

This is the start of my yellow /orange bed...so far it has Gold glow tea rose, ( gotta have my roses), a yellow hollyhock, ( hopefully it will be yellow , planted in 2014 , so hopefully) a yellow daisy mum, some daffodils, Stella De Oro daylilies, pale yellow iris, and am planning on planting some orange tiger lilies and more sunflowers here as well...their is old fashioned purple lilac planted in the back

This is in veggie land area of the garden, Maid of honor climbing rose, I am happy with its growth this year, since I planted it this year...it is planted along side a panel

 

This is crimson barberry shrub, I got this one free when I got the rose of Sharon's that are not on one side of the blackberry lane area of the garden...these are on the end of the blackberry lane by the fence...

 

I really don't know what this shrub is called

it is planted in blackberry lane as well, along the side of it

 

My cherry tree

was once a bigger beautiful cherry tree here , but we had a tornado come through and take it out . I am letting one of the small sprouts come up...so hopefully one day I will have more cherries, by the way they was sour , but made excellent pies

Rue

As I had stated I would post about the herbs that is in the sunset illustrated book of herbs..
I have not tried to plant this as I haven't been able to find it....

 

Rue ( Herb-of Grace)

Ruta Graveolens

Rutaceae ( Rue Family)

Perennial; hardy to -20 F/ -29 C.

 

 

Jut one whiff of Rue`s powerful aroma and the word " Medicine" springs to mind. And despite the occasional ( and spare ) use of rue in cooking, its  herbal history is mainly medicinal.

From the time of ancient Greece through the middle ages, rue was thought to protect against magic and witchcraft. In the first century A.D., Pliny stated that consumption of Rue helped preserve eyesight, a belief that has endured through the centuries in Italy. Its folk name, Herb of, may stem from the brushes made of rue that once used in church services to sprinkle holy water.

Rue and its pungent scent figure in Europe's plague-ridden history. The aroma believed to be both repellent and disinfectant, so springs of rue were used in prisons and courts of law to ward off germs and pestilence. As a strewing herb, it was employed for the same purpose.

Belief in such properties was reinforced when it was learned that rue was an ingredient in " four Thieves " vinegar, a concoction drunk by thieves themselves who robbed bodies of plague victims, yet failed to contract the disease.

 

DESCRIPTION:

 The word " fern like" has aptly been applied to rue. The plant is a bushy perennial, decked out is soft bluish green leaves divided into numerous segments to produce a filigree effect, like that of maidenhair fern. The foliage is aromatic, but the scent produced merely by brushing against it is often perceived as unpleasant--and the sap in the leaves and stems can cause a skin rash in susceptible individuals.

Rue plants are shrubby and more or less rounded, growing to 2 to 3 feet high and wide. In spring clusters of 1/2-inch greenish yellow blossoms make a substantial show and then form seed capsules that have some decoration value when dry.

Two variant plants are fairly widely available from perennials and herb specialist. ." Jackmans Blue` makes a smaller plant to about 1 1/2 feet high, bearing distantly bluish grey leaves; all plants are raised from cuttings..

Bluish green leaves irregularly splashed in cream and yellow are the feature of 'variegata', which can be raised from seed as well as cuttings.

 

CULTURE:

 Rue is tough plant that will survive drought and poor soil. But it grows and looks better in average to good well-drained soil with moderate to regular watering. If your soil is decidedly acid, add lime when preparing soil to reduce acidity.

Cut back plants early spring to encourage bushiness an pinch stem tips at any time to stimulate more branching. You can start from seed or from cuttings taken in late spring or summer.

 

HARVESTS &USES:

Nowadays, rue is chiefly a decorative herb, planted both for its contribution to garden beauty and for its dried seed heads, which are attractive in arrangements. Despite its medicinal history, avoid ingesting rue; in large does its toxic and skin irrigation is always a possibility.

I seen this on the web somewhere and thought I would try it...

reusing pop bottles or can use water bottles as well

 cut in half and then put soil in the bottom and after of course washing it, then plant

a seed in the soil and tape the top back on...and suppose to able to start some plants this way

thought I would try and start some hollyhocks and some rose of Sharon's ...to see if it works

have also seen another thing I am going to try as well

using newspapers for pots to start those plants

 

I have ordered a new camera with some Christmas money I received so

cant wait until it gets here

New Years Resolution....

First off , I usually don't make new years resolutions....but have decided to make this one that I will try and take pictures everyday and then post them on this blog....so we can go back and see pictures of the garden and how it changes every day....
so here starts the first installment of pictures of garden every day....this post is picture heavy
