So this post will be able some of the seeds I worked on today, this morning...it is bitterly cold outside today and the wind makes it much colder ...are expecting snow today as well...so tomorrow post will be maybe snow pictures....
I collected some magnolia tree seed pods, the first on icollect, I thought was some seeds ...was so excited about it, then I got to looking on the internet and nope no seeds, so when I went back to the place I collected the first one at...I made sure I got a seed pod with red seeds that I could see. I read on the internet that they need to soak for 24 hours so the red seed cover will come off easier....the above picture is the seeds soaking before I removed the red seed cover
The seed covers were easy to take off after soaking them for 24 hours.....these came from one seed pod....they was alittle hard to remove from the seed pod....some of them were....
The seeds after I removed the red covering from them...and cleaned them as well...I am trying three ways of planting them according to the internet( things I read) the seeds to need to be cold stratified....so I put a few of the on a paper towel and moisten it and put in the frig.I also put some potting mix into a baggie and then place the seeds...the next way was I used a soda bottle and added some dirt and then place some seeds in the soil and moisten the soil and tape the top back on and place outside , since it is winter here in the Ozarks.....What I have read on the internet, it takes anywhere from 3-6 months before they spout up.....
So I decided to pick some of these red berries
Here are the ones I picked
They were easier then the magnolia tree seeds to release the seeds ....I plan on planting these in the same manner after I rinse them and let them soak alittle in warm water....What I have read on the internet they need to be cold stratified as well........
Just Two of my make shift greenhouses AKA fish aquariums ....I also use Ziploc baggies for greenhouse...
I hope you all
ENJOY!
